Overview

Located in the southeastern plains of Nepal, Koshi Tappu Wildlife Reserve is a hidden gem renowned for its extraordinary biodiversity, particularly its avian population. Spanning over 175 square kilometres, the reserve is situated within the districts of Sunsari, Saptari, and Udayapur. It is defined by the vast floodplains and grasslands created by the mighty Koshi River, which makes it a haven for birdwatchers and wildlife enthusiasts.

Koshi Tappu was recognized as a Ramsar site in 1987, signifying its importance as a wetland of international significance. The reserve is a sanctuary for over 500 species of birds, some of which migrate from as far away as Siberia. Birdwatchers flock to the reserve to spot rare and endangered species like the Swamp Francolin, Bengal Florican, and the elusive Black-necked Stork.

Apart from its avian treasures, Koshi Tappu is also home to a diverse array of wildlife, including the rare Asiatic Wild Water Buffalo, wild boars, hog deer, and blue bulls. The reserve’s waterways harbor the endangered Gharial Crocodile and the elusive Gangetic River Dolphin. The unique wetland ecosystem supports a vibrant diversity of flora and fauna, making it a prime destination for nature lovers.

Day 01 Kathmandu to Biratnagar

Day 02 Birdwatching and Village Walk

    • Return to the camp for a hearty breakfast.

  • Evening:
    • Enjoy a cultural presentation featuring traditional Tharu dances and music, offering insights into the vibrant local culture.

Day 03 Jungle Safari and Soft Wildlife Rafting

    • Return to the camp for breakfast.
