The Seti River is a picturesque and significant tributary of the Karnali River system, meandering through the scenic landscapes of western Nepal. Originating from the pristine snowfields and glaciers around the majestic twin peaks of Api and Nampa, this river flows through a region near the tri-junction of Nepal, India (Kumaon, Uttarakhand), and China (Tibet). As it gracefully winds its way southward, the Seti River invites adventurers to embark on a captivating journey through its gentle currents and lush surroundings.
The Seti River is renowned for its breathtaking scenery and offers a unique blend of tranquility and adventure. For the majority of the year, its calm waters beckon families, bird watchers, nature lovers, and dreamers to bask in its serene beauty. However, during the monsoon season, the river transforms into an exhilarating challenge for experienced rafters and kayakers, with swollen rapids that provide an adrenaline-pumping experience.
A Glimpse into the Rich Cultural Tapestry
As you embark on your Seti River rafting expedition, you’ll journey through lush vegetation that harks back to the vast forests that once blanketed Nepal’s middle hills. The area is home to the Magar community, renowned for their generations of service in the Gurkha forces. You’ll have the opportunity to camp beneath the vibrant village of Saranghat, nestled amidst the picturesque middle hills.
Upon your arrival at Kathmandu's Tribhuvan International Airport, you'll be warmly greeted and transferred to your hotel. Take some time to relax and explore the vibrant city at your leisure.
In the early morning, we'll depart from Kathmandu and embark on a scenic drive to Damauli, our put-in point for the rafting expedition. Once the rafts are prepared, we'll set off down the Seti Khola, immersing ourselves in its lush forested canyon. The luxuriant vegetation offers a glimpse into the ancient forests that once thrived in the region.
Today, we'll continue our rafting journey and become objects of curiosity for the friendly villagers along the riverbanks. Rafting provides a unique perspective to observe undisturbed wildlife. During breaks, you'll have the opportunity to explore, photograph, birdwatch, swim, or simply relax. Later in the afternoon, we'll encounter a small but technically exciting rapid near the charming village of Saranghat, inhabited by the Magars. Our campsite for the night will be on a spacious beach below the village.
After breakfast, we'll continue our journey downstream. The highlight of the day is encountering a thrilling Grade 3 rapid shortly after departing from Seti Khola. As we transition to the Trisuli River, the landscape transforms dramatically. The middle hills recede, revealing the vast Terai plain before us. Twisted rock formations give way to sandstone and gravel, deposited by ancient rivers. Along the way, we'll visit the sacred religious community of Devghat, where thousands of pilgrims gather annually for worship. The confluence of the Kali Gandaki and Trisuli Rivers marks the birth of the Narayani River. Our adventure concludes at Narayanghat, a charming town where our river journey comes to an end.
After a hearty breakfast, you'll be transferred to the airport for your departure flight, taking with you cherished memories of your Seti River rafting expedition.
